What's inside: Espresso-Style Concentrate

Each mark on the ruler is where a layer starts, drawn to this recipe's proportions.

Espresso-Style Concentrate

Not espresso — the AeroPress reaches well under 1 bar and makes no crema. It is a dense concentrate that works in milk.

Best with beans that taste

ChocolatyBold & smokyCaramel & sweet

Why: A dense 1:3 concentrate needs a bean with body. Chocolaty and darker roasts give the thick, sweet base milk or soda needs; light fruity beans turn sharp at this strength.

Directly on the mug

  1. Paper filter in the cap, cap on, brewer sitting on your mug or server.
  2. It stays there the whole brew — pour, wait, press. No flipping.
